During the summer of 2014 the Narrowboat Cariad IV toured the North Eastern Canals of Britain inviting aboard some of the best musical talent that Britain has to offer, from the great and famous to youngsters just starting out.
During the summer of 2015 The Narrowboat Cariad IV toured the Canals of The Black Country, Brumagen (Birmingham) and down to Stratford upon Avon. Then back up to North Wales again recording music from all comers all the way down and all the way back.
During the summer of 2016 The Narrowboat Cariad IV toured the North of England again this time heading up the Rufford Canal and then on to Liverpool. An overwhelming response when we asked for musicians to volunteer led to nearly one hundred amazing session video's and recordings!
During the summer of 2017 The Narrowboat Cariad IV went south to London on the Oxford Canal and the Thames. Returning to North Wales up via the Grand Union, Birmingham and the Shropshire Union. We have now had to restrict the sessions to 120 per year due to the incredible demand.
This Year The Narrowboat Sessions had to do a a shortened tour of the Midlands.
We have had to cut the length of the tour down whilst the skipper recovers from his accident.
He has promised not to drop any heavy vehicles on himself again for the foreseeable future.
The 2019 Narrowboat Sessions will be starting off where they usually do in North Wales and then continuing from near Nottingham where they left off last year. Heading up the East cost and then coming back down the Huddersfield narrow canal back through the Midlands to North Shropshire.
Sadly due to the pandemic lockdown there weren't any sessions recorded during 2020. However, we will be producing a Blues Album selected from previous year's sessions .
During the summer of 2021 The Narrowboat Cariad IV will be touring the canals of the Southern Midlands before returning to North Wales via Shropshire

Skipper of Cariad IV and Creator of The Narrowboat Sessions. Mark is a retired Ex-Forces Engineer who has been involved with Music on and off since he left school.
Poor, long suffering wife of Mark. Mistress of the Windlass and lock gates. (Aka 'The Boss') we'd have ground to a halt without her tireless support on the Canals of Britain
All round good egg and general snappy dresser. Alan is better known for being the creator of 'The mAdHOuSe' venue in Burton upon Trent.
2001-2018.

Aka 'Elfin Bow' the beautiful
Betty has been the brains
behind the original Album production.
Without her the 2014 album would
still be trapped in our portastudio.
The youngest member of our crew Catrin also lives on the waterways on her parents Narrowboat in North Wales. She's an indispensable part of the gang as she can handle a boat as well as a windlass!
One of the best guitarists in the country, this unsung hero is an absolute must for any journey.
Great to jam with, he even makes us sound good!
Boyfriend to Catrin, Aaron is the latest member of our crew. A brilliant young Jazz guitarist with a bright future ahead of him.
Our beautiful Narrowboat Cariad IV was built by a branch of Harland and Wolff in 1986. At the time she was a national show winner with a build quality that reflects her heritage.
The Narrowboat Sessions raises money each year by producing a double album of the recordings that are made from the sessions, the profits from which go directly to Cancer Research.
Special thanks go to all the musicians who have donated their time to make it all possible.
When not recording musical sessions, Mark Holdsworth is a keen photographer, and hopes that you enjoy looking through his photographs.
